How to pre-order GTA 6: stores, editions, pre-load and what to avoid

Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI opened on June 25, 2026. You can pre-order digitally on the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store, or a boxed Standard Edition from the usual retailers, which is reported to contain a download code rather than a disc. Both the $79.99 Standard and $99.99 Ultimate include the Vintage Vice City Pack.

Digital or physical?

Digital unlocks at local midnight by region and lets you pre-load. The physical edition is reported to be a download code in a box rather than a disc, per Take-Two comments covered by Pure Xbox and Variety, so it works on a PS5 Digital Edition or Series S but still needs the full download. If you want to play at 00:01, go digital.

Pre-load

Rockstar has not announced a pre-load date. PlayStation Store backend data, surfaced by the "PlayStation Game Size" account and reported by Push Square in late October 2026, lists pre-load from November 12, a week before launch, which matches Rockstar's past practice. The same data puts the PS5 download at 210 GB. Neither figure is confirmed, but free up at least 210 GB on the internal SSD now so you are not deleting games at midnight.

What to avoid

GTA VI is console-only at launch and Rockstar sells it through first-party stores. Any site offering a "discount key" for a console game is a scam vector: PlayStation and Xbox codes bought through grey markets are frequently region-locked, revoked or simply never delivered. Buy from the first-party stores or a retailer you would trust with a physical copy.

Cancelling

Both first-party stores allow pre-order cancellation up to the point the game unlocks or pre-load begins, depending on region. Check the store's refund policy before you pre-load.
